The first collection of Capcom's high-octane 2D action classics is nothing short of great. So, how well do X and Zero (as well as their new friend Axl) hold up in their latest adventures?

Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 makes the best of the material it’s given to work with. Regardless of each game’s quality, steps have been taken to clean them up to allow fans the option to relieve both the moderate highs and the very low lows of this era of Mega Man’s history. It’s disappointing that the X Challenge recycled some boss battles from the first volume, though, because experiencing these games in a new way would’ve given us a bit more to enjoy.
This appears to be a theme with the Mega Man franchise. Each series starts off well, and then after a half dozen or so numbered titles, the quality falls off a cliff. Much like with the original Legacy Collections, I would recommend the first collection over the second in a heartbeat if you were to only choose one. The games here aren’t necessarily terrible, but none of the games are on par with the essential experiences found in the first collection.
X Legacy Collection 2 is just okay. X5 and X6 look great and provide fun platforming, though both fall victim to uninspiring stories and a lot of dialogue. X7 should be commended for trying to change things up, but the switch to 3D falls flat. X8 is much more polished and is probably the best title in the collection. The collection overall is probably best for those that are nostalgic for the PlayStation 1 and 2 era Mega Man games; otherwise, there are much better platformers around on the Switch with better variety.
