Megatagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies is as big a name as it is a departure from the series' previous games. A third-person character action that seeks to learn from previous mistakes made in Neptunia U may be a recipe for success.
If you’re a fan of the Neptunia series, and especially the characters, MegaTagmension definitely comes highly recommended. If you haven’t played the series before, this game does offer a decent entry point, as it doesn’t require prior knowledge of the series to enjoy. Hell, playing this was my first exposure to the Neptunia series, and despite the faults, I had a great time with it.
The Hyperdimension Neptunia series hasn't been around long yet there sure are plenty of spin-offs. This Vita exclusive title has you beat on countless zombies as a cast of familiar schoolgirls, but is it a worthy entry in the series?
MegaTagmension: Blanc + Neptune vs. Zombies is one of those games where you definitely have to be either a fan of the genre or a fan of the series to enjoy, and even then you’re not necessarily going to enjoy it past the initial playthrough unless you’re a diehard fan of these games. The story is bland, the characters have a lot of personality that doesn’t always get to shine, and the gameplay is repetitive, even according to musou standards. However, the moments where everything seems to click, it serves this game extremely well.
A strong multiplayer feature buckles under the weight of a middling single player mode.
I personally love the hack-and-slash genre, but I also understand the criticism that’s leveled in its direction. After all, so many of the games that fall under its umbrella just involve mashing the same button over and over. But I like to think there are certain nuances that make said button mashing a fair bit of fun: enemy variety, a diverse set of playable characters, occasional puzzles and clever level design can really keep things interesting.
