Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
So if you’ve never played MSF, this is definitely the way to do so. For people who’ve already bought the game on 3DS, it’s a judgment call. I certainly don’t have buyer’s remorse thanks to the new content, but you will basically have to play through that of the 3DS game again to get to it. But with those pretty new graphics, who’s complaining?
So Mighty Switch Force: Hyper Drive Edition doesn’t go as far as it could have gone in remastering the 3DS original, but the changes that are present here are superb – veterans will love the challenge of the new Hyper levels, and the quality of the high-definition art is so good that it’d be worthwhile to buy the game on looks alone. Here’s hoping this is just a first testing of the waters for WayForward and Wii U, as I’d love to see what else this artistic studio could accomplish on Nintendo’s new HD canvas.
About a year ago Mighty Switch Force was released on the 3DS eShop and it was a fun downloadable title that offered platforming, action, shooting, and puzzle solving all wrapped up into one game. WayForward Technologies has recently released an updated version on the Wii U eShop aptly titled Might Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition. If you played Mighty Switch Force previously for 3DS you can now experience the game in high definition 1080p glory. There are also new “Hyper” versions of each level that will almost guarantee to make you pull your hair out, and the artwork has been completely red...
If you already owned Might Switch Force! for the Nintendo 3DS, the Hyper Drive Edition is somewhat more difficult to recommend. If you loved the title, then coming back to it just for the visual upgrade and the remixed levels will probably be worth the time investment. However, the remixed levels do not unlock until you beat the primary game, which means replaying essentially the same content as before. However, if you are new to this series and platforming action with a size of problem solving is appealing to you, Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition is absolutely worth sinking some time…
