“A half-baked attempt to revive the NBA Live franchise should have waited another year.”
NBA Live 14 delivers the ultimate on-the-court control and by introducing a new, physics-based dribbling system one-on-one matchups take on a whole new meaning, putting creativity and control at the core of every move.
NBA Live’s flaccid return is made all the more disappointing because we waited three years for it. After all that time, NBA Live 14 in no way advances the basketball sim genre and, worse, leaves little to be optimistic about for next year. Here’s hoping EA figures something out, otherwise this series’ comeback is going to be short-lived.

After a three-year absence including two aborted games, EA Sports is finally stepping back onto the hardcourt with NBA Live 14. Over the course of its struggles, EA continued to express its unwavering commitment to the NBA, promising a return to the glory years where Live was a formidable sports franchise. Perhaps that dedication was misguided, because even if it's viewed as a first step in a multi-year rebuilding project, NBA Live 14 is in rough shape.
At some point EA Sports had to release a basketball game. That is exactly what they did. It’s not the best, and it can barely be considered good. In fact, it's not good. NBA Live 14 producer Sean O’Brien posted an apology of sorts only four days after the games release where he promises a lot of changes to this year's game, from animation and graphic upgrades to helping players more easily understand the gameplay controls. In a world where NBA 2K14 exists, this game cannot be recommended until these promises are followed up on.
