Pinball FX3 Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Pinball FX3 delivers a great pinball experience much like its predecessors. The touch screen controls with the Switch's vertical orientation option work surprisingly well and are really responsive, though I personally prefer using the Joy-Cons for a more machine-like feel. As a free download and three free tables (one with the game and two as free DLC),as well as cross-play with PC and Xbox One players, you can't really go wrong with this one.
Pinball FX3 shows that it has what it takes to make great movie based tables, especially when taking on the Jurassic films. The Jurassic table set is a great trio of tables that allow players to not only revel in the nostalgia of the original film, but also jump into the world of the more recent addition to the franchise. The tables work perfectly and the desire to trigger scenarios keeps you playing with those goals in mind.
Zen Studios haven't faltered yet, and their Pinball FX series continues to be a bright spot in the digital pinball landscape. Outside of licensing troubles and new tables featuring less than accurate presentation, there's a great game of skill to be had here.
I haven’t had much experience with any virtual pinball game, let alone a real one, but I am somewhat familiar with game publisher, Zen Studios. Having played one of their previous games, Infinite Minigolf earlier this year, I had quite the positive experience with its online gameplay and course creation modes. When I was presented with Zen Studios’ Pinball FX3 for the PS4, I was not entirely sure what to expect. However doing some quick research on the previous game, Pinball FX2, I found that it had been very well received and in knowing that, I was interested to see what this game would bring...
Pinball FX 3 is a fantastic sequel and offers everything a fan of the series could hope for. It brings added sheen and shine to every conceivable area that was lacking in Pinball FX2. The true test of its longetivity will be in its forthcoming table packs but judging on the quality of the Universal Film Studios pack, we’ve nothing to be worried about.
After years of plunking down change for Zen Studios' endless stream of licensed and original DLC table packs, pinball fans finally have a proper sequel to get excited about. Not only does Pinball FX 3 unify all of Zen's platforms under one umbrella, it offers a host of new modes and progression systems to keep players busy. While I have quibbles with how the competitive side of Pinball FX 3 is handled, it is still an easy upgrade to recommend to pinball fans.
So, has Zen Studios finally settled on a name, then? Pinball FX3 is the successor to Zen Pinball 2, a game which itself was named Pinball FX2 on other platforms. The good news is that despite the adjusted moniker, you can import practically all of your tables from the previous version into this all-new release – although licensing issues mean that South Park, Plants vs. Zombies, and a couple of others have not made the leap. Thems the breaks, we’re afraid.
