Red Goddess: Inner World Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

While the story and premise might seem simple, it’s the way in which the premise is explored and displayed that truly matters. On her journey, Divine is able to interact with other characters and find various upgrades that will shed more light onto her story. She is also able to collect Rage and Fear upgrades which allow her to engage in various combat techniques. Rage turns Divine into a red monster type creature who will break red blocks or fight red enemies. With Fear, you turn into a blue colored monster where you can break blue blocks and fight blue enemies. How you switch between the two...

Red Goddess has beautiful visuals and an interesting rage and fear transformation system. It had potential, but sadly, a great game is buried under a pile of problems.

Overall, Red Goddess: Inner World is a mess. The concept is good and the animation is pretty, but wholly nothing to rave about. The glitches make it impossible to play without getting angry. If the issues were resolved however, the gameplay would actually be enjoyable; for instance, the wall jumping ability felt effortless and fun. But without a good story to drive us onwards there’s still no point.  If more time had been spent on plot and character development, it may have made me actually want to play the game.

Goddess-forsaken.

A good platformer puts together well constructed levels and a decent challenge, while a great platformer has levels that encourage you to take risks and move through as fast as possible while offering fun challenges to tackle. Sadly Red Goddess doesn’t offer any of these. Instead it feels like you are fighting the game every step of the way, and this is frustrating because of how much promise there is underneath all the problems. Given more time I’m sure Yanim Studio could have nailed this on the first attempt, but instead Red Goddess: Inner World’s bugs dominate against the gameplay.
