Despite its problems though, Rugby 20 still boasts the most impressive rugby videogame experience you’ll be able to find. While its lack of atmosphere and limited longevity stand in the way of it being as good as it could be, the joy of actually playing a match is hard to beat. It sucks being a gamer who’s also a massive rugby fan. Given how niche the sport is, it’s hard to find a rugby game with enough of a budget to afford both a sizeable amount of teams and an acceptable level of polish. Rugby 20 is like a Northern Hemisphere team's World Cup campaign. It's full of big ideas and good intentions, but a shock defeat here and an expected loss to the South's big boys there, and it soon comes off the rails. There's some fun to be had, but it's often at the expense of the game, not because of it.
