This is one of those games where the leaderboard dominates the experience, and Sektori’s scoring is complex and nuanced enough to reward true expertise in play. Whatever position you earn on that leaderboard is entirely earned. In my case it’s a very low place indeed, but I can’t stop playing and trying to beat my own score, let alone anyone else’s. I might never reach the top of Sektori’s leaderboard, but I can recognise the utter design brilliance that has gone into making this game. I can’t believe that so many people are overlooking this thing.

For some, seeing Sektori in action or hearing it be described might be enough, but I didn't “get it” until I had a controller in hand that eventually became sticky with sweat as I realized just how long I had been playing before taking a break. This is the logical evolution of classics like Geometry Wars, Resogun, and of course, Asteroids. File this under ‘hidden gem’, but I’d like to tell you all about Sektori, a brand new twin-stick arcade shooter than came out earlier this month. It’s entirely possible it’s completely flown under your radar (it did mine), but thankfully, I’m here to rectify that mistake and shine a light on what is an astoundingly good video game. Time to get that adrenaline pumping in our XboxEra Sektori Review.

Made by solo developer and ex-Housemarque programmer Kimmo Lahtinen, Sektori is the closest thing you're going to get to the sweet rush of the likes of Resogun without revisiting Housemarque's back catalogue. It's tough as nails, but with eye-melting visuals and fast-paced twin-stick shooter action, you simply won't be able to get enough of it.
