Professional reviews from gaming critics
ShowGunners could have easily been a big ol’ mess. Not many games that incorporate a number of genres and mechanics at once can make them work in harmony. The premise of the game as well, when put on paper, sounds too hectic to be successful. You play as Scarlett, a bounty hunter in a dystopian landscape who is also a contestant on a “kill-or-be-killed” reality TV show, Homicidal All-Stars. To be victorious, Scarlett must fight and dodge her way through eight deadly trails equipped with...
In its looks and execution, Showgunners does what it set out to do and creates a turn-based love letter to the 90s, updating those themes for a modern audience, while still somehow not managing to lose authenticity. It’s a job well done and I’d much like to explore this universe further in the future.
Showgunners is a good example of turn-based combat set within a dystopian world that will take you, on average, somewhere in the realm of 15-18 hours to complete the full game.
A pared back turn-based strategy that successfully replicates the action of XCOM but is so lacking in originality and variety it feels like half the game it could have been.
Showgunners is the perfect mix of XCOM meets Smash Tv. It’s a brutal game show where you’ll use a variety of skills, guns, and items to decimate your opponent. Survive a series of events run by the showrunner as he attempts to make your life a living hell. Showgunners is one hell of a ride.
