We are back with another episode of “tackling the WORST GAME OF THE YEAR, at least according to the general consensus on the internet”. This was a game I was extremely (and morbidly) curious to try out. Initial reviews of Skull Island: Rise of Kong were some of the lowest I had ever witnessed on an aggregator website. Ones and twos were rampant. Things got so heated up to the point of the developers apologizing a few days after the game’s release, also citing the poor working conditions...
Like the island in the title, Skull Island: Rise of Kong should be left alone by anyone curious enough to buy, play, and refund the game.
Skull Island: Rise of Kong is a bug-filled mess that's defined by an empty world with no exciting gameplay. With no simple QoL features like a usable map, completing each level is a pain. For $40, there's no chance Rise of Kong is worth your money or time.
It’s a gibbon that this is the least ape-pealing game of 2023.
It's not helped by the fact that the storytelling is abysmal, as is the music and presentation. It's simply impossible to find a single part of Skull Island: Rise of Kong that doesn't border on record-breaking, which is why I'm forced to hand out our very lowest rating. This is by far the worst game of the year, without any doubt whatsoever.
