Spider-Man 2 Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
The first half of Spider-Man 2’s narrative can feel a bit slow, but the superb open world and emotional second half more than make up for it. This is a compact and tight experience that feels laser-focused on delivering an experience that always feels varied and exciting. It universally succeeds in that vision and takes the crown for the best superhero game ever made.
If Spider-Man 1 was about what it means to be Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, as its natural evolution, is about what it takes to be a Spider-Man. Insomniac Games has crafted a sequel that feels better than the original in almost every way. It has numerous shortcomings, especially when it comes to its gameplay, but like 2021's Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, it's also a shining example of why superhero games will continue to thrive as long as there are great stories to tell.
Evolving naturally from the experiences of Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Spider-Man 2 offers an experience with a bigger NYC, a bigger story with bigger stakes, and bigger, deadlier foes than ever before.
Spider- Man 2 is a sequel that plays it safe and takes risks in equal measure, giving Peter and Miles powerful independent journeys that intertwine
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a textbook example of a video game sequel done right. It retains everything that was great about its predecessor while also refining the experience in key areas. The biggest improvements come in the form of engaging side missions, but the highly cinematic main story is the ultimate show-stealer. This is the best Spider-Man video game ever made.
Spider-Man 2 is one of the best superhero games ever, with an incredible narrative, addicting gameplay, and stunning graphics. Despite some occasional bugs, I was never bored playing Spider-Man 2 with its moment-to-moment gameplay improving on a formula that has stayed the same for twenty-five years. Only time will tell what Insomniac has planned for the franchise, but I will watch with great interest.
The additions to the gameplay, like web wings and the symbiote abilities, offer a great amount of variety to the mix. It makes the most mundane activity of traveling into something exciting that players will love. Swinging across the city and using the wings for a brief speed boost is one of the most satisfying mechanics in recent gaming history. If anyone still hasn’t played Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, now is a perfect opportunity.
Spider-Man 2 is a cut above its predecessor, with significantly improved gameplay and a narrative that tugs at your heartstrings.
Spider-Man 2 is as dumb as a bag of bricks, but that’s the norm for blockbusters. What it gets right is emotionally manipulating players to become invested in it, backing that up with one of the slickest combat systems we’ve ever seen… and then giving us two entirely different characters to enjoy that with. It is a true spectacle and while I wish that we, as a community, demanded better from narratives in video games, I couldn’t help but have fun with this one once I shut my brain off and just embraced it for the silly thing that it is.
Spiderman 2 is a thoroughly enjoyable experience, but is let down by a rushed feel and limited gameplay containing some of the most repetitive missions known to man.
Based on the highly anticipated movie sequel from Columbia Pictures and Marvel, "Spider-Man 2" allows players to swing into action as the famous "web-slinger" and protect the city of Manhattan from Doc Ock and his evil minions...
