Professional reviews from gaming critics
Statik's puzzles are absolutely brilliant, providing some mind-bending experimental challenges in a unique way that takes full advantage of VR.
Statik does what any good puzzle game should: it challenges you. No puzzle felt unfair or insurmountable. The game itself, and the way in which it is played, is arguably the best use of the PSVR yet. It’s a sense of immersion you fail to see elsewhere in the PSVR lineup. It falls short on duration, and terribly so on replay value, but the asking price makes the experience worth it, I think. I wager down the line, Statik will get some new puzzles, but for now, what is there might be short but it is spectacular. It does everything right, and very little wrong. It is simultaneously serene and ten...
It’s a testament to Statik‘s inventive puzzle design and clever complementary use of the DualShock 4 and PlayStation VR that even though I didn’t care much for its story or aesthetic, it still won me over big time. If you’re a PlayStation VR owner, you owe it to yourself to look into this game further.
Statik is a PlayStation VR puzzle game similar in style to Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. You awaken in a strange room as a test subject with both hands locked inside a puzzle box while your captor Dr Ingen observes you from afar. You must solve these puzzle boxes in order to uncover why you are being tested and learn how to escape Ingen's lab.
Complete a puzzle and a little printer embedded in the box will churn out some results which then have to be shown to a small robot named Edith. This quickly became one of my favourite parts of the game, as the robot quizzically tries to lean over and read the results. She has to get a clear view, but you can snatch them out her sight or try and smack her on the head with the box. I never managed to do that, but it was still a lot of fun to try and added a little humour.
