Streets of Rage 4: Mr X. Nightmare Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Needless to say, there’s never been a better time to play Streets of Rage 4 if you haven’t already done so, or return to it. While the free goodies are undoubtedly welcome, it’s the extra characters, Survival mode and moves offered by Mr. X Nightmare that really breathe new life into this magnificent side-scrolling beat ’em up. With the DLC installed, Streets of Rage 4 becomes one of the best gaming experiences you can have right now. It’s utterly essential. Now we’re just hoping that Dotemu, Lizardcube and Guard Crush get to work together again on Streets of Rage 5.
For a small and reasonably-priced DLC, Mr. X Nightmare brings a lot to the table. Not only does it add a new mode with a decent amount of depth, but three new characters and a lot of other small changes. Streets of Rage 4 was already an incredible game and a worthy successor to the iconic franchise, but Mr. X Nightmare has made so many refinements and tweaks that it has raised it to the level where it has surpassed them. All it took was adding one key factor - replayability.
Even in isolation, Mr. X Nightmare is worth the small price of admission. As well as the 3 new characters that all bring their own unique play style to an already large cast, the Survival Mode is a fantastic addition that’s well worth your time and adds potentially dozens upon dozens of hours of extra play time to the game. Unlocking every character’s new moves won’t be a quick task. It will take some time, but you’ll be having a lot of fun doing so if you enjoyed your time with the base game. The fact that the DLC also includes new enemies, weapons and even music to further freshen up the gam...
Streets of Rage 4 - Mr. X Nightmare adds plenty of new worthwhile content to an already great game that will please series veterans and newcomers alike.
Streets of Rage 4 has finally received some DLC in the form of a Survival mode and a training room—but is it enough for fans hungry for more? Can Streets of Rage 4: Mr. X Nightmare make you pick up the controller and hit the streets once again? That’s exactly…
This new content has done nothing but improved this amazing game even further!
Sure, you’re getting more content and replay value as a result. Though your own enjoyment here really does hinge on how much you enjoy survival mode content. If that’s more your bag, then I would absolutely recommend going for this. If not, you could get away with ignoring it. I personally dig the hell out of this game, but my views on the base game should have made that abundantly clear. There are worse ways to waste eight bones.
