The sequel to a game that was inevitably difficult to follow, Teslagrad 2 has been crafted with a lot of care, attention and knowledge of what made its predeces
On the bright side, the electricity-based powers are really fun. Our fair maiden can teleport, slide, defy the polar opposites, and more. You’ll need to time the use of your powers to pass through walls, create them, stick to ’em, etc. The pacing of the levels are tight enough that you’ll be encouraged to just keep going. Now, if you are to just follow the game’s main story, you’ll finish it rather quickly. But the pacing of the game is solid, and I highly suggest going out to collect the cards littered throughout the map and, really, just explore it. The visuals alone make it worth it, and th...
Likewise, the combination of movement and Lumina's electricity powers are fun to use but have a significant issue present in the electric dash. This is by far the most used ability, as it turns Lumina into a bolt of lightning that goes through gates, propels her through water and up waterfalls, travels along zip lines, and even damage enemies. However, its use in combat in less effective than desired due to the recharge time between uses. Despite only lasting a second or so, that window leaves Lumina immobile and vulnerable, which is a significant issue when it takes one hit to die. Like Wo Lo...
Nearly a decade after the wonderful original released, Teslagrad 2 is finally here and it's super-charged for one unforgettable adventure.
Teslagrad was originally released in late 2013, in a golden era for indie darlings, to relatively decent critical, but certainly impressive commercial success, becoming a cult hit for the next ten years. The reveal of a sequel, Teslagrad 2, coming out on the same day as the debut of its trailer, was surprising, to say the least. This sequel continues on with the magnetic physics puzzles from the first game, while adding some new abilities to help traverse its world. Just like the first game, ...
Teslagrad 2 is built for fans of the original. If you're looking for a longer campaign, you'll have to look elsewhere, but if you find a good deal on a bundle, pick it up. Play the first, then the second. Maybe speed run them the second time around. Graphics and sound are amazing, and the game will definitely give a challenge. But that could be where it's electromagnetism stops.
Teslagrad 2 is a gorgeous and enjoyable puzzle game that, even with slight shortcomings, still works extremely well. And it runs fantastic on the Steam Deck without any changes necessary!
Nearly a decade on, Teslagrad 2 strides into view where the original left off, with a modest but still entertaining palette of magnetism-based gameplay and precision-platforming alike. A justifiable approach from Rain Games in parts given how easy it is to grapple with, though one that isn't as bold and surprising a second time round -- lacking the broader creativity a sequel of its nature could have and should have brought. Curious in many ways, when it comes to applying one's abilities. In others, a game whose short run-time and lacking narrative sadly isn't offset by a more memorable and me...
Teslagrad 2 is a puzzle platform that offers a unique type of gameplay that you don’t usually get to use. It is quite short, but it’s an enjoyable time while it lasts!
My feelings on Teslagrad 2 are simply disappointment. It’s a fairly solid Metroidvania with some frustrating moments and a vagueness that rubbed me the wrong way at times. It’s undeniably beautiful to watch in action, and that helps carry it across the line.
“Teslagrad 2's momentum-based platforming makes for speedy fun, even if it doesn't quite have the same spark as its predecessor.”
