Ripples again showcases the excellent storytelling and choice-driven gameplay that has made The Council such an intriguing experience thus far.
After the awful showing of Episode 2, I had absolutely no expectations going into this one. But hey, I came away relatively pleased and somewhat looking forward to what is to come next. The underlying issues that have plagued every episode thus far still persist here, but at least The Council is finally utilizing its strengths in the best way possible, despite its flaws.
Ripples doesn't quite hit the heights of The Council's first episode, but it's worlds better than the second one thanks to the simple act of actually moving the plot forward.
With all that said though, The Council: Episode 3 – Ripples offers another fascinating look into this alternative history 18th century. New plot twists are carefully added, and the narrative continues to get darker and more sinister. It makes a few duff choices, making it perhaps the weakest of the three chapters so far, and the technical failings are less than ideal, but it still remains fascinating. The cliffhanger, on the other hand, is perhaps the best so far – at least, in the way my game ended, it was – and episode four is set up to be the darkest and most twisted yet. I can’t wait.
The Council Episode 3 – Ripples, didn’t have the splash I was expecting. The game so far has been a deeply enjoying episodic narrative with exciting twists and turns that always left me wanting more. The twist at the end of Episode 2 signals that we might finally start getting some answers to all the questions that have been building thus far throughout the plot.
