The Deadly Tower of Monsters Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Ironically, the greatest parts of the game are in its artistic presentation. The art style, filters, music, and voice acting are what really lift this game up from being just another action game. The game doesn’t overstay its welcome, either, clocking in between three and four hours for a first playthrough. The short playtime can make the full asking price ($14.99 at the time of writing, not counting any sales going on) a bit hard to swallow, though.

I have a lot of time for Deadly Tower of Monsters. More than Diablo, more than Fat Princess Adventures; this is the grindy, top-down action ‘crawler that I am going to come back to over, and over again.

Travel back in film history to when the acting was over-the-top, the effects were cheesy, and the astronaut helmets were upturned fish bowls! Listen to the commentary of director Dan Smith as you play through this loving homage to science fiction B-movies. Though the controls could be clunky, this game is a delight from beginning to end thanks to the hilarious writing, intentionally campy acting, and commentary from the worst director ever.

The Deadly Tower of Monsters is a fleeting experience, but one that no B-movie fan should go without. I have a few issues with the loot and upgrade systems (namely in that they feel superfluous), but as a straight action game, it mostly succeeds in what it sets out to do.

In the end, The Deadly Tower of Monsters manages to accomplish exactly what it set out to do. It's a fun romp through the uncut commentary of an imaginary B-Movie. If nothing else, if you want a game to kick back and enjoy just for the sheer authentic cheese of it, you could definitely do worse than to give this one a shot.

B-movie by name and B-movie by nature, but there’s still enjoyment to be had with the endearingly rubbish enemies and fun but vapid combat.

The player gets to control one of three characters throughout the game, each of which controls identically apart from one special ability. Melee and ranged combat are both used equally to dispatch the variety of monsters the game throws at players. While there are plenty of different weapons to acquire and level, the differences in how they act is miniscule. I found myself using whichever weapon was newest; just pushing the attack button with no combo system and rarely doing charged attacks. Occasionally the game will send enemies up from the bottom of the tower and players must approach the l...
