Wait a few days or weeks to buy the game if you can resist for now. There are frustrations to be had, but they're entirely due to the fact that this is such an amazingly fun and smooth co-op experience that too many people are all trying to play at once! HELLDIVERS 2 surprised me, with solid combat systems, fluid movement and an interesting metagame. And it's just about playable on Steam Deck.

Helldivers 2's randomized missions and compelling reward track make for a delightfully fun shooter.

Helldivers 2 keeps kicking me in the rear end, and I can't help but respect it. Visiting its warzones often feels like a one-way trip, to the point where I'm surprised to make it through. My group chats are awash with war stories of hard-fought victories and those times I dropped an airstrike on my head.

Bombastic, funny and challenging, but still a bit buggy.

With no roadmap and little knowledge of what’s to come for Helldivers 2, it’ll be interesting to see where the game goes in the following months and possibly years. One thing is sure, though, and that’s that Arrowhead Game Studios has crafted brilliant multiplayer, one that puts the players first above all else. It is mindless and addicting fun that calls back to that classic era of multiplayer games, where it wasn’t about how much you could nickel and dime someone but how much fun players could have.

With its high-chaos, high-comedy firefights, Helldivers 2 is a riot to play with friends – although its launch has been hampered by persistent matchmaking and progression problems.

Server issues aside, which eventually should be eliminated, jump into Helldivers 2 and you’re bound to have a good time. Its battles are challenging and engaging, it’s got a fun sense of humour, and it’s rewarding seeing your war efforts pay off. Whether you find yourself fighting against fearsome automatons while waiting for your flag to be raised, or squashing bugs while racing to take down an illegal radio signal, chances are you’ll have a big grin on your face while doing so. And that’s what really matters. Helldivers 2 isn’t particularly big or clever, but boy, is it a lot of fun.

Ten years after its predecessor, Helldivers 2 is finally here, bringing chaos and destruction to players’ screens – but does it live up to the original, or perhaps even surpass it?
