Wait a few days or weeks to buy the game if you can resist for now. There are frustrations to be had, but they're entirely due to the fact that this is such an amazingly fun and smooth co-op experience that too many people are all trying to play at once! Helldivers 2 offers endless opportunity for wild action, hilarious friendly fire deaths, and explosions as far as the eye can see. Its simple yet addicting gameplay loop, combined with an incredible level of polish, makes this one of the must-play games of 2024. I know this initial launch fervor will eventually die down to some degree, but I'm in it for the long haul. I can't wait to see what Arrowhead adds to the game next.
Sure, a new 3D Prince of Persia would be great, but after completing The Lost Crown, I really hope Ubisoft continues to iterate on this formula, because Prince of Persia fits perfectly as a Metroidvania. Not only that, but it's a remarkably accessible one too, making it a great entry point for genre newcomers, as well as genre veterans who prefer to play without the training wheels.
Even with the frame rate dips, occasional fuzzy textures, and uneven pacing, this game is a phenomenal sequel, a fantastic Star Wars game, and just a straight-up great game. This is currently my favorite Star Wars game, hands down. Between the stellar writing, exploration, traversal, and combat, Survivor offers a powerful experience, and one well worth having. Whether you want to wait a bit for a few more patches or you just want to jump in now, this game is worth your time. In a year full of exciting releases, Survivor will endure near the top of the pack without question.
But, for new players? This isn’t a great expansion to jump into. I’d still recommend the Witch Queen expansion for players interested in trying out Destiny for the first time. After that, if you’re all-in on what Destiny 2 has to offer, give Lightfall a look. The neon-lit aesthetic of Neomuna, alongside the new Strand subclass, offers something fresh for players to enjoy — once you move past the ‘turn your brain off’ adventure.
With some highs and plenty of lows, Forspoken might be worth playing for some, but it'll be forgettable for many.
