The Solus Project Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
The Solus Project is deserving of much more praise and explanation than I’ve given it here, but to comment on anything other than the setup without damaging your experience would be nearly impossible. The Solus Project is a game about the mystery and wonder of exploration and it deserves to be experienced tabula rasa. If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring a new world on your own and experiencing all of the mystery and terror that experience implies, The Solus Project is pure wish fulfillment of the highest quality.
The Solus Project came as something of a surprise to Playstation VR owners. Starting out as a normal screen based game on Steam, it soon came with an optional VR setting for HTC Vive and Oculus owners. Shortly after, it arrived on the PlayStation Store with the same screen / VR options. As a game developed by a small group of people it will likely astonish with the depth of VR capability, placing it among the very few VR games in existence that places the player in a fully explorable world.
First-person exploration games have to do a lot to break out of the typical boring walking sim formula. The Solus Project features a large and diverse planet for you to explore so check your oxygen levels and get ready to land.
The Solus Project is a satisfyingly creepy exploration game that uses a brilliant understanding of setcrafting and circumstance to capture the experience of being alone on an alien planet. Ambience and mood are kings here, and the experience deals eeriness and beauty in equal measure. Sadly, its puzzles are seldom rewardingly challenging, and while it introduces survival elements to heighten the tension an abundance of supplies and indestructible items end up making these elements more annoying than welcome.

The world of The Solus Project is totally worth exploring thanks to an interesting story and great art direction. It's just not much fun to actually play.

You have been sent on a mission to find another planet that is inhabitable, but after years of exploration with no luck, you find yourself stranded and alone on an alien planet after your ship has crash landed – sounds all too familiar if you ask us. You must search the crash site to recover supplies and forage your surroundings in the hope of discovering resources to be able to survive and find a way off of this str...
