Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is a fantastic game for the right audience. If you’re a huge fan of PS1 JRPGs or a returning Valkyrie Profile player, you will have a fantastic time with this game. It’s hard for me to say what newbies to the genre might think of the game, but as someone who’s dropped a thousand hours in Final Fantasy 7 I can say Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is definitely a 10.

All in all, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth holds up remarkably well in 2023. The game’s mix of 2D platforming and RPG mechanics wouldn’t be out of place in today’s indie scene, and ditto for its slightly opaque nature. Valkyrie Profile hails from a time when games weren’t afraid to have mysteries, and while you’ll have to do a little digging to see everything this title has to offer, the experience is well worth it. So if you’re looking to experience a classic RPG from the days of yore, look no further.
What Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth does best is show a great deal of courage when it comes to basic RPG design. Swinging far wide of normal RPG conventions, the game offers a highly unique and creative approach to the genre.
Valkyrie Profile Lenneth is one of those obscure but famous JRPG titles that deserved a revival and finally received one that it deserves.
Porting old games is sometimes a perilous task. You never know which elements are beloved and which are reviled. Sometimes a developer will make too many changes, resulting in a monstrous mess that satisfies no one. Sometimes You change nothing and end up with Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. To be clear, I would have been totally fine with Square Enix making a couple more alterations than they did. You know, maybe shake some more of those cobwebs off this bizarre relic.
