It's been a very long eighteen years since the original release of Warcraft III. Seventeen years from The Frozen Throne expansion and an amazing sixteen years since World of Warcraft. Frankly, if someone had asked me if World of Warcraft was released just two years after Warcraft III, I would have said no, it's impossible. I would have been wrong. So, almost two decades after its original release, how has Blizzard worked through the re-release and remaster of what is a true classic of the strategy genre? Welcome to Warcraft III: Reforged.

I think it would be an understatement to say this game had a rocky launch. I actually struggle to think of another game that launched to this much backlash. Star Wars: Battlefront II perhaps, or maybe Destiny or Fallout 76? It’s hardly an achievement to be proud of and certainly not the reception Blizzard had to have been hoping for. I brought up “the old Blizzard” in this review because this is the first time in a while (yes, even counting Diablo III at launch) that you can really sense a huge shift at the company in just about every sense. Warcraft III: Reforged is both the beginning and end of an era. It works to a degree thanks to the immense talent of the original Warcraft III creators and custom map fiends, but it doesn’t quite feel like Blizzard, does it.

Warcraft 3: Reforged is the familiar, classic RTS game that we know from 2002. There are four playable races to experiment with and master: Humans, Orcs, Undead and Night Elves. Each has distinct playstyles and viable strategies to build around. The goal is to wipe out all enemy forces while managing your army and economy. While a majority of the game remains the same, the main focus is the rehauled graphical changes and cutscenes. Let’s get this Warcraft 3 Reforged Review on the way!
