Zombeer

byMoonbite Games•2014

Zombeer is a first-person shooter that is an unapologetically irreverent homage to everything kick-ass about zombie movies and drinking beer. The game is packed with humorous reference to classic zombie flicks of the past and, of course, a healthy supply of ammo and alcohol.

Zombeer Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Now playable for the first time on consoles, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that the wait for Zombeer hasn’t been worth it. The few interesting interesting ideas it has with regards to art-style, setting and voice talent, are all squandered due to an overall lack of presentation and polish. Couple this with the game’s excruciatingly slow movement and bland shooting mechanics, and all that’s left is a poor man’s Lollipop Chainsaw that’s more Scooby Don’t than Scooby Doo.

Overall Zombeer has the potential to be much much better if the mechanics can be fine tweaked in a patch to make things smoother. The lack of story in a first person shooter isn’t the end of the world, zombie apocalypse or not, but how well you can move through the apocalypse could well be.

Zombeer didn’t do so well on the PS3. It received terrible reviews, and rightfully so. Unfortunately, despite some new dialogue it is no better on PC and I have to advise people to stay away. A mixture of unsatisfying shooting, very low-brow humour, and a lack of anything truly meaningful in terms of plot make this game something you can easily afford to miss.

Zombeer is, in all honestly, a cute idea stiffly marinated in Leisure Suit Larry sensibilities, Duke Nukem- like execution, and Stubs the Zombie inspirations. However, this title succeeds almost only in resurrecting those title's shortcomings while piling on some of its own. Stale at best and tedious at worst, Zombeer consistently feels like the guy who comes late to the party and spends the whole evening laughing at his own jokes. With its atrophied mechanics and lame narrative, you will need a beer of your own to wash away the memories of this rotted corpse.

Zombeer is a first-person-survival-horror-comedy-shooter.
