Gears of War: E-Day Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Gears of War: E-Day delivers arguably the franchise's finest, most atmospheric campaign, brilliantly balancing pulse-pounding action with genuine horror roots. By pairing breathtaking Series X visuals and refined combat with a deeply emotional return to Marcus and Dom, The Coalition has delivered a masterclass prequel that restores complete faith in Xbox's future. A triumph from start to finish.
Gears of War has ascended to become XBOX’s premier flagship franchise
If you read my Gears 5 review back in 2019, you know how much the Gears of War franchise means to me. It is a series that my entire family gets excited for because it offers such a wide variety of content for all types of players. Its been seven years since Gears 5, and my son has now played through most of the series and loves playing Horde with us. Yes, we added another member to the Bravo Squad. Naturally, when Gears of War: E-Day was announced we were all extremely excited.

Gears of War: E-Day Review: Worth the seven-year wait.
Gears of War: E-Day is an audiovisual marvel that feels like an Unreal Engine tech demo, backed by a story with just enough emotion, and incredible, Hollywood-style set pieces, to make your jaw drop. It has its share of problems, from repeated locations to an underwhelming final boss and some surprisingly poor PC performance, but the good outweighs the bad here, and around 90 per cent of my time with it was a remarkable experience.
From a compelling campaign to blood-soaked multiplayer, The Coalition understands what makes Gears great.
Gears of War: E-Day is a remarkably solid installment in the Xbox franchise that successfully recaptures the saga's gameplay identity, horror, and visual brutality. While its story stumbles in pacing, enemy variety is limited, and there are some AI flaws, the graphical performance and the evolution of its combat system more than compensate for these shortcomings.
The Xbox console exclusive Gears of War: E-Day is here with a massive campaign and lots of multiplayer modes. Check out our review for more.
Gears E-Day proves that looking back can, indeed, help you look forward, too.
