Professional reviews from gaming critics
The key to the success of Fire Emblem: Engage is not its "heroes of games past" hook, it's the revitalized focus on combat and clever battle maps. Turn-based strategists who've felt disenfranchised by FE as of late should be thrilled.Read More
Fire Emblem as a franchise has had a zigazag of quality over the past decade or so. After stylistically bland DS remakes of some of the series’ earliest games
It's time to Engage those rings as we look to review Fire Emblem Engage. How does the latest entry in the series fair? What's up with the Pepsi can protagonist? All this and more will be answered as we delve into one of Fire Emblem's best entries.
Fire Emblem Engage is not a sequel to Three Houses in any way, shape or form, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
Despite weaker writing than I’ve come to expect from the series, Fire Emblem Engage’s gameplay is so good that the game is a blast from start to finish, and I’m already thinking of ideas for my third playthrough. If you like Fire Emblem’s gameplay at all, Fire Emblem Engage is a can’t-miss game.
Fire Emblem Engage is a fantastic entry in the long-running strategy RPG series, offering a fun and enjoyable story with some of the best gameplay the series has to offer. New and old fans alike have a spectacular title in front of them that will be fondly looked upon for years to come. Engage is a celebration of the past and the worlds we’ve seen, while also celebrating the strong future this franchise holds.

Fire Emblem Engage is an excellent way to celebrate the series' 30th anniversary, with outstanding combat and visuals. Just don't go into it expecting a gripping story or compelling worldbuilding.
As an experience more in-line with the pre-Fates era of Fire Emblem, Engage is a worthy celebration of one of Nintendo's longest running and most storied franchises. Despite many flaws, none of them offset the experience so drastically to sour the overall experience, making for another great entry into the gilded halls of Fire Emblem.
Fire Emblem Engage brings a lot to the table to entertain fans of past games while also welcoming new fans. Not everything works, and some things do fall flat, but overall, it’s a lot of fun.
Fire Emblem Engage plays well within its toolbox of combat, offering superb level design, improved visuals, and a mechanic built upon past Fire Emblem characters. While Engage is a blast to play, its story, characters, and dialogue all disappoint.
