Triangle Strategy takes a long time to open up. The first five hours are the weightiest introduction of a Tomoya Asano-produced title to date, making Bravely
Triangle Strategy is pretty special. Through its challenging yet adaptive battle system it is approachable to newcomers to the genre while still offering an engaging challenge to veterans. Over the forty or so hours it took for my complete play through I felt like I got to know some wonderfully written characters through a story that took some surprising and unexpected turns, and since I had to fight so hard both on the battlefield and in conversation - the path I took and the outcome of the story felt truly mine. An excellent strategy RPG all around.
Can Triangle Strategy set a new benchmark for the tactical RPG genre? Balancing the scales of refined gameplay, new mechanics, and breathtaking visuals points to yes.
With engaging battles, a captivating story, excellent world-building, and interesting choices with actual weight and consequences, Triangle Strategy is an absolute gem that far exceeds all expectations.

With a captivating political plot, an excellent combat system, and beautiful HD-2D visuals, Triangle Strategy has all the hallmarks of being a hit with newcomers and veterans of the tactical RPG genre.
Triangle Strategy puts the strategy in strategy RPG. Its setting is gorgeously realized, its worldbuilding is excellent, and its characters are messy and complex in the best way. The game avoids putting all its eggs in one basket by also containing some intricate and often grueling combat. Both these sides of the title are woven together by the urgency of its plot and the uncertainty of what your decisions will cost. Unfortunately, that doesn’t keep the seams between gameplay and narrative from showing.
An interesting experiment. It hasn't really been the best couple of months for Square Enix, has it? First there was that [...]
Triangle Strategy tells a compelling story that connects with the tough decisions world leaders have made throughout history and today—but even with this strong narrative and well-designed gameplay, the long cutscenes and frustrating UI make the game less than perfect.
