Sniper Elite 4 is one of those games that has something for everyone. Being a borderline recluse, I was attracted to the idea of playing as a lone wolf, but the multiplayer co-op Overwatch game was even better!

There is nothing quite like that moment when you find the perfect vantage point, take the perfect shot, and escape before anyone notices. Sniper Elite 4 is the latest title from Rebellion Developments, 3 years since Sniper Elite III released. Sniper Elite 4 brings about new changes while refining existing elements of the series. Sniping and stealth in video games has usually been a crowd pleaser, and Sniper Elite 4 does well in catering to this style of third-person shooter. For those that have not heard of the Sniper Elite franchise, you have probably seen the series’ familiar x-ray kill cam ...

Sniper Elite 4 takes its perch as the marquee, non-arcade sniping title on the market. Through its strategic gameplay, disgustingly explosive kill cutscenes, and jam-packed sandboxes, Sniper Elite 4 satiates the need for a World War II shooter, while not getting dragged down by the norms of the genre. Even with some technical hiccups and a less-than-likable protagonist, Sniper Elite 4 achieves, takes aim, hits its mark, and then some.

Sniper Elite 4 is the best entry yet in this long-running franchise with great big meaty missions stuffed to bursting point with Nazis to snipe and stab in glorious slo-mo X-ray vision. There's a new-found flexibility to the gameplay, with Karl now able to shimmy and scurry vertically around levels and enemy AI that's much more up to the task than in previous iterations. There may be some slightly rough edges, with duff writing, naff characters and gameplay that doesn't change much from start to finish but, overall, this is playful sniper's paradise that lands on Switch in a truly impressive p...

Sniper Elite 4 delivers a solid sniping experience and a lot of fun stealth moments. It has a forgettable story and a few technical quirks but succeeds in delivering all the skeletal nonsense that fans of the series have come to expect.

Sniper Elite 4 is a vast improvement over Sniper Elite 2 and 3 in terms of scenario design and ambition, but there’s just something missing. The team at Rebellion have got the combat down. They’ve got the sniping mechanics down. They’ve even nailed the traversal mechanics – whether vertical or horizontal. But there’s a distinct lack of fantastical set pieces that stunt Sniper Elite 4 from reaching its true potential. Instead, we have some greatly designed, open missions; but ones that grow repetitive by the time the game ends. Issues with pacing and repetition aside, Sniper Elite 4 is still a ...

Sniper Elite 4 focuses on a handful of things that it does very well, and the overall experience is one that I enjoyed. This is a more thoughtful, slower burning pace than the typical shooter, though it is punctuated by moments of intense action that stand out more because they are highlights and not a constant drone of gunfire and running. That being said, the series on the whole has room to grow and is probably overdue to put some more effort into its story and perhaps add a few more wrinkles to the overall gameplay as well.

Sniper Elite 4 offers a lot of replayability for tactical shooter buffs who like to experiment with and test all the different ways they can complete their mission and if you enjoyed the other games in the series, you’ll definitely enjoy this one. There’s also a competitive multiplayer or co-op campaign to experience if capping Nazis alone isn’t your cup of tea.

I’ll be honest here, I do have a bit of a reputation on the Checkpoint team as the “go-to-girl” for shooting games. While I’m a massive fan of the genre, the Sniper Elite series is one I’ve never taken much of an interest in, until now. The fourth game in a franchise might seem to some like a bit of an odd place to jump into a pre-established franchise, but trust me here you’re all okay to just leap right in with me. In Sniper Elite 4 we see our protagonist OSS agent Karl Fairbu...
