A game about wonder and discovery, it's hard to find fault with Core Keeper — as long as you're happy not to have your hand held. You'll need to figure everything out for yourself, but that's part of the joy. Whatever type of player you are, whether you want to focus on exploration and combat or build your own ecosystem, Core Keeper caters for you thanks to its huge amount of content.

Trapped in a cave with no way out, the only real option is to convert the monster-infested depths into a comfy home.  Build a house, garden, fish, scavenge, and mine to get better tools, and beat on monsters to maybe eventually escape the sprawling subterranean map.

I think the biggest praise I can give to the game is that I cannot wait to dig into it with a few friends over the coming weeks. It's the kind of game you can slowly chip away at over several evenings and the hardcore mode even offers some replayability down the line. While it doesn’t reinvent the wheels of its genre, Pugstorm’s Core Keeper emerges confidently out of early access and I’m looking forward to revisiting it over and over again in the coming years.

I can easily see why Core Keeper is so very loved. The gameplay loop gets super addictive and the sheer amount of things to craft makes this game infinitely playable and infinitely customizable. It’s definitely a game that you can play for hours on end.

Core Keeper will be a lot of fun for players who’ve enjoyed past games like Stardew Valley, Terraria, and Minecraft since it draws from many of the popular mechanics in those games. There’s nothing entirely new in Core Keeper, just a rehashing of popular mechanics from other games. The only new thing that Core Keeper does is set the survival experience underground. Even still, players have been logging into Core Keeper to explore the underground and enjoy it.
