People have called Welcome to Elderfield the spiritual successor to Graveyard Keeper, but I think it deserves the accolade of being called the spiritual dark successor to Stardew Valley. Stardew Valley is considered the gold standard for narrative-driven farming sims, and in my opinion, Welcome to Elderfield has shown that it has what it takes to stand alongside the greats.
Welcome to Elderfield takes the classic farming management sim formula and drips it in atmosphere and grimark horror for an amazing experience. It is also very playable on the Steam Deck!

Welcome to Elderfield will be an interesting case for fans of the genre who flocked to its revival with Stardew Valley. What the hell is cozy? Much of the enemy art has clear inspirations from Junji Ito. The sheer density of the town’s supernatural happenings and resignation also feel akin. However, it never feels as hopeless or helpless as Ito’s most famous works. Welcome to Elderfield is a game where you can summon the unearthly and smash it with a big hammer.
