I played the first Dark Souls and defeated Ornstein and Smough up to new game+ with a controller, so maybe it’s because of my muscle memory the fact that I found myself so uncomfortable while playing with a keyboard and mouse. Maybe, if you’re a new player who hasn’t played any of the Souls games yet, a keyboard and mouse might work for you, but for me, there really is no chance. If you have a controller, Dark Souls II works splendidly, it actually feels subtly more responsive than the first Dark Souls, which is absolutely fantastic.
Horror games are special in a way that not all people react to them the same, but personally, I did almost shit my pants in some cases, and like I said, even when the scares were just a product of my paranoia, they were only possible because of the game’s carefully crafted ambience. Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is a fantastic and moody horror experience.
If you ever get lost or want to see what you have already unlocked and discovered, you have a small inventory where all your findings are stored and all your notes are saved. You also have a map, to help you quickly navigate through key areas of the house and mark where you stand, so you know which way you’re going if you’re looking for something specific. Everything works flawlessly and intuitively. It’s very simple.
