Death Stranding is a rare game that has no middle ground. It delivers a unique experience that encourages planning and patience but places high action on only rare situations. And the Director's Cut gives more than ever before.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition fails to give these legendary games the treatment they deserve. The visual updates are poor, the titles have many graphical and performance issues, and the overall experience is just insulting. This game was not ready and the overwhelming amount problems are too large to ignore. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is inferior to the original games and represents these phenomenal titles in the worse way possible.
Bright Memory: Infinite is impressive for such a small team. The presentation and visual design match and depending on the game surpass AAA quality. The fast-paced combat captures many of the positive elements found in arena-style shooters. It's a short game, taking about 1-hour to complete depending on skill level but provides a thrilling adventure that you'll want to come back to. The small issues that halt the experience can be annoying such as the slow reloading and inability to skip cutscenes but these are minor problems. Bright Memory: Infinite is a terrific shooter that delivers that high-octane sense of speed and precision fans of arena shooters love.
Unless you're the most dedicated Demon Slayer fan it's hard to recommend this. Anime games have come a long way and titles like this highlight why most gamers don't take these games seriously. Dragon Ball was infamous for this but now we have titles like Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and even the CyberConnect2's Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot that went against the bare-minimum notoriety anime games are known for. Even original games based on anime like Astral Chain and Scarlet Nexus have gone beyond this, making what is offered from Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles multiple steps backward. Yes, CyberConnect2 was limited to what they could do with the source material but charging the full price is just not justified with what is offered here. The combat is fun but without a decent progression system, even the most beautiful flashy attacks won't save it. Save your money and watch the Demon Slayer anime instead of playing Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles.
INDUSTRIA delivers a solid 2-hour adventure with mysteries, profound moments, and satisfying combat encounters. Many may feel the ending leaves a hollow feeling of uncertainty but others may enjoy the challenge of figuring out what happened. It's expensive and short but worth playing.
Cris Tales has a lot of positive elements but they start to fall apart at the end. Much of the title's end game could've been stripped down and the game would've benefited from this. The great cast of characters, visual design, and the promising combat system has a lot of positive features. It seems that the developers decided to try and extend the game's life by adding unnecessary tasks towards the end. Turning what could've been a great 25-hour fantasy adventure into a 40-hour adventure that fizzles out at the end. Cris Tales is a worthwhile RPG to experience but you'll have to endure a lot of redundancy.
Man of Medan is a great start to The Dark Pictures Anthology. The slow pace of the start won't appeal to everyone but comes together in the end. With each decision leading to a ripple effect down the line. However, the slow movement of the characters and the inability to skip dialogue and cutscenes does mean you'll have to replay large sections to see alternative takes. Regardless, Man of Medan delivers a solid horror narrative full of reasons to come back and play again.
Octopath Traveler is one of the best RPGs this generation. Providing a traditional formula for modern audiences without making any sacrifices. You'll still have to endure random encounters and lots of grinding, especially with the absence of an experience share option, but these are systems that RPG fans love. Octopath Traveler is a game for RPG fans that provides 8 outstanding campaigns that'll keep you hooked from start to finish.
Combat occurs are the primary form of gameplay and is basic. You can button mash your way through much of it and use slo-mo finishers to perform flashy attacks like from an action movie but its the bare minimum. The boss fights themselves rarely differentiate themselves and can be completed with the same tactics as normal enemies, which strangely all look the same.
Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered is a serviceable remaster of the 2014 adventure. The game is stable, especially compared to the original, and the improved graphics and framerate is a nice update. However, it doesn't solve the many issues the game already faces. Perhaps one day we'll get a fully realized Templar focused Assassin's Creed game but for those wishing to experience the war from a different perspective will find some worth in Assassin's Creed Rogue.
