UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[st] is a flashy fighter that is a welcome addition to the fighting game community. It’s not the deepest game around, but its unique mechanics and anime stylings will appeal to both novice fighters and seasoned vets.
Dragon Ball FighterZ
Dragon Ball FighterZ’s rock-solid fighting engine is both accessible and deep at the same time. The paltry selection of modes and repetitive Story Mode somewhat take away from the game, but this is one fighter worthy of any Saiyan warrior.
Coming of age stories usually have you liking characters more as the plot progresses, but players will be eager to wrap up Life is Strange: Before the Storm sooner rather than later. The poor pacing, unlikable characters, and plodding interactive elements end this season on a low note.
Sky Force Reloaded
Sky Force Reloaded is the FDA generic version of the shoot-em-up. Everything is so plain, and the lack of personality will dissuade all but the most hardcore of shmup fans.
A Hat in Time
A Hat is Time is a truly charming game. It does not quite have the polish of Nintendo or Rare’s greats, but the sheer amount of originality and care that went into it makes it a must-play for platforming fans.
Pawarumi
PAWARUMI has got a unique mechanic, but it is brutally difficult in more ways than one. The color mechanic is not as intuitive as Ikaruga's, but those looking for something with great aesthetics will appreciate what is present here.
Ninja Shodown
Ninja Shodown is not the most original title around, but it provides raw competitive thrills that will have you begging for one more round. The bare bones package is a tough sell for $15, but those willing to suit up may find their next multiplayer addiction here.
Samurai Riot
Samurai Riot has a number of novel ideas, but the repetitive levels and wonky engine undo any good will. Those who are looking for the next coming of the beat-em-up will likely be disappointed with this title.
Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash knows exactly what it is. It's not the deepest game around, but those that can appreciate its absurdity will find a solid enough third person shooter that certainly stands out.
Super Hydorah
Super Hydorah goes toe-to-toe with Konami's Gradius series in terms of quality. Polished to a shiny sheen, those looking to relive the past will not be disappointed with this title.
Windjammers 2
Windjammers is a timeless game that is perfect for competitive play. DotEmu's release isn't the most robust around, but those looking to recapture the spirit of SNK will have fun with this title.
Sonic Mania
Sonic Mania has everything you could ever want from a Sonic game. The levels are carefully crafted, the bosses are unique, and the fanservice is off the charts. Those looking for the second coming of SEGA's mascot have found it here.
