One of the most memorable third person shooters I ever played was the first Max Payne game for the PC. It had an interesting story, cool presentation and style, and most importantly was a lot of fun to play. Leaping in the air with my dual wielding pistols while shooting bad guys in slo-motion was simply a rush and left me feeling like a Hollywood star. Well it has been 9-years since the previous Max Payne game, so Max Payne 3 arrives with some great anticipation. Unfortunately, the years have not been kind to Max. He looks considerably older and a little haggard. He is battling a lot of inner demons along with some huge guilt and a substance abuse problem. Fortunately however, Max Payne 3 is definitely not showing its age at all as this was a fantastic ride from the moment I jumped into the game.
Soccer, or more commonly known as football in Europe, is one of the most popular team sports around the world. I imagine it is because all you really need is a ball that you can kick, have agreed upon markers to score on (such as two sticks in the ground) and an area to play in. In fact, unlike a lot of sports, soccer can be played on almost any hard surface and in most types of weather. As long as there is space to kick and run around, you can probably play it, which makes it an ideal and an accessible sport for almost anyone. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about FIFA Street for the PS3, the latest from EA Sports.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning starts out with a bang as you are revived from a deathly state while tangled in a pile of corpses. From here you are lead to a tutorial section where you learn to attack, defend, and use magic. You can attack with either your primary and secondary weapons and you can also attack using magic. With this in mind, attacks can come in many forms including the use of magical staves, long swords, great swords, daggers, sceptres, hammers, bow and arrows and several others. For those looking for quick escapes, you run by holding down the “X” button and the analog pad. Should you be forced into a defensive mode, you block by pressing the “L1” while the circle button allows you to dodge depending on which way you like to go. Health potions and other items can be used quickly with the D pad.
Like a lot of kids growing up, I wanted to go to Disneyland. I don’t know exactly why but it just seemed like that’s what all the other kids did during their summer holidays and I felt I was missing out. While I didn’t get to go as a kid, I did go to Disney World on my honeymoon and I finally got to see what the hype was about. It was truly a magical place for everyone including kids and adults. When I was asked to review Disney Universe, I readily agreed knowing that the same care they put into their parks, movies, and everything else would likely be the same approach with the game as well. After playing Disney Universe for the PS3 for several hours, I knew I was right.
