Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning isn't the perfect game. Its random technical hiccups and inconsistent art style certainly holds it back from even higher levels of greatness. But no matter what you're looking for, whether it be amazing gameplay, immersive storytelling or perhaps a riveting new world to explore as you fully customize and re-customize your character at will, Reckoning has it all. And after I jump back into my own game to clean up all of the optional stuff I didn't do, I sense I'll want even more. And yes, so will you.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning starts out with a bang as you are revived from a deathly state while tangled in a pile of corpses. From here you are lead to a tutorial section where you learn to attack, defend, and use magic. You can attack with either your primary and secondary weapons and you can also attack using magic. With this in mind, attacks can come in many forms including the use of magical staves, long swords, great swords, daggers, sceptres, hammers, bow and arrows and several others. Reckoning is a workmanlike interpretation of what makes an RPG tick, placing a spotlight on all the right mechanics and features that most titles struggle to perfect.
If you're in the mood to massacre venomous spiders, battle vicious trolls, and slaughter helpless boxes, Reckoning gives you plenty of ways to do that. Come and see if this fate is for you.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning ultimately feels like the most engaging action game ever created. The deep customization, leveling, and crafting systems put it miles ahead of other games that fall into that category.
So, not a hell of a lot of difference between the two versions aside from what we’ve mentioned already. Really, it’s down to what you really feel like playing it on: if you’re not too fussed about the visuals, then a console version may be a good shout as you’ll get the added bonus of easy-to-access DLC and of course, achievements/trophies.
