It’s always interesting to see what happens to a series when it moves in a bold and new direction, either mechanically or narratively.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what makes a JRPG good or bad, and I’ve played a tonne of JRPGs in my life before God Wars: Future Past. I usually find myself asking the same questions when looking back on games like this. Does the story make sense or is it a pile of overwritten garbage? Is the gameplay solid and flowing or more akin to document sorting? It’s these questions and more that have lead me to  say for a fact that God Wars: Future Past is a truly solid tactical JRPG at its cor...

Do you remember when Spore came out? Months of hype  followed by a resounding, world-wide “meh”.  God games have a tendency to seem really good in the premise, but are found to be really lacking in the execution.  Some can break the mold and be enjoyable however (see any Sim City game pre-2012). Unfortunately, Birthdays the Beginning falls into the former.

I’ve never been overly keen on anime. I watched a lot of Dragon Ball Z when i was younger, but just never really saw the appeal. But on your next run you might run out of fuel due to not finding any scrap, completely helpless with nothing to do but watch the rebel fleet slowly creep up on your helpless ship, and them get stomped into mulch because you have n...

So it was the holidays recently, a time in the year where everyone relaxes and I stuff my face with Ferrero Rocher and Baileys.  During this chocolate binge however, I tend to play something super laid back to help me wind down from the stressful year that is soon to be behind us, and this year I picked up Stardew Valley… and didn’t put it down.

You see, trying to piggyback off the success of the Souls series isn’t lazy, it’s just suicidal. Dark Souls is more than just painfully difficult combat; it’s the feeling of exploring a dark decaying world, and having the story be subtly told to you through dialogue and item descriptions. Meanwhile, Let It Die whacks you over the head with story at any chance it gets.

Did you take an ancient history class in high school and think, “Man, I wish i could re-unify China during the Han Dynasty?” Well, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII is the game for you, buddy.  Being the father to the highly addictive Dynasty Warriors series, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII takes place in 2nd century China and spans across many years and characters.
