God Wars: Future Past
A tactical RPG that fuses Japan's oldest historical record book, Kojiki, and an ancient figure who everyone knows, Shaka, into a single adventure. It illustrates the lives of heroes who left their marks, fighting against nature, while balancing those two aspects on their shoulders.

God Wars: Future Past Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Tactical turn-based RPGs sure have evolved a lot over the years. However, going back to basics can still result in an enjoyable gaming experience so let's see how God Wars Future Past's old-school approach holds up.
Although the game looks a bit dated and the story can be messy at times, God Wars: Future Past is a game that should be played by anyone who craves a great SRPG that tests your skills and knowledge of the genre. Kadokawa Games seemed to take the feedback of what they did wrong with Natural Doctrine and deliver a game that fits in well with other notable SPRG titles, while adding unique systems that allow it to stand out.

God Wars Future Past is a great throwback to classic Tactics RPGs!
Strategy JRPG’s have been a bit of a dying breed in recent years. NIS America has had the market cornered with over-the-top stylized titles such as Disgaea for years, but what about the more grounded titles? Once a mainstay of the early days of the first two PlayStation consoles, this offshoot of the Japanese RPG genre has become a relic of the past. If you’re looking for an expansive RPG or JRPG that marries world exploration with a myriad of gameplay elements, you’re not going to find it here. God Wars: Future Past is an excellent turn based RPG for fans of the genre. Players will certainly enjoy the story telling through cutscenes and lively cast characters met along the way. And even though battles can become challenging at times, coming back with a new strategy in mind almost always leads to victory. PS Vita owners would definitely get the most out of this game with its handheld version.
Visually, there isn’t much going on beyond the game’s artwork and animated cutscenes. Character models, environments, and animations are incredibly basic. Although their size and simplicity makes it easy to view the battlefield and manage units, the 3D visuals in God Wars lack any sort of punch or flare. At least the soundtrack is decent, as is the English dub, which is a rarity in most Japanese imports.
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what makes a JRPG good or bad, and I’ve played a tonne of JRPGs in my life before God Wars: Future Past. I usually find myself asking the same questions when looking back on games like this. Does the story make sense or is it a pile of overwritten garbage? Is the gameplay solid and flowing or more akin to document sorting? It’s these questions and more that have lead me to say for a fact that God Wars: Future Past is a truly solid tactical JRPG at its cor...
