In a world filled with games paying homage to the retro games of yesteryear, Wario Land was not a game I expected to start getting this kind of constant treatment. After the raving success behind Pizza Tower, it was only a matter of time before another game came on the scene attempting to make the perfect form of these games. That game being Antonblast, obviously. You know what you clicked on. Antonblast is a side-scrolling 2D platformer not unlike that of Wario Land, where you play as Anton ...

Two indie Wario Land homages in as many years is a strange but very welcome coincidence, as this is almost as good as Pizza Tower – while still being very much its own game.

Antonblast is a great tribute to Nintendo’s Wario Land series with its madcap action and focus on gameplay variety. The cartoonish visuals, high replayability, and overall spectacle of the experience make this one well worth a recommendation, though we’d temper this by saying that it really needs some work on its Switch performance. Whether on Switch or elsewhere, we’d suggest you pick this one up if you’re at all a fan of Nintendo’s other Italian mascot and are looking for a well-made and fast-paced new 2D platformer—Antonblast has got it where it counts and is well-deserving of a spot in...

Antonblast is chaotic to a fault. Its explosive personality makes for an entertaining spectacle, but it left me wanting for a more controlled detonation.

Everyone should play Antonblast at least once, but good luck with that. There are still spirits to collect, and I’ll be riding this rollercoaster again in no time. Now, bring on the speedruns; this is gonna be a… I’m not gonna say it, but you get it.

Antonblast is a kinetic, visually stunning and frequently bizarre platformer developed and published by Summitsphere. Taking some gameplay inspiration from the Wario Land games, along with elements of Sonic the Hedgehog and Crash Bandicoot, and then filtered through a surreal visual style reminiscent 90s cartoons, the whole thing comes together in a surprisingly cohesive and deeply enjoyable package, providing varied and over-the-top platforming fun that is hard to put down.

Antonblast is a fantastic 2D platformer that invokes the feelings of Wario Land and Pizza Tower, while also being very playable on the Steam Deck.

I was relieved to find a fun and funky game that just wants to have fun and let the player wade in its weirdness. It might have its annoyances (of which there are a few), but Antonblast is a fine example of a solid indie action platformer. It doesn’t hit many of the heights of its influences and contemporaries, but is a game that’s worth plowing through in its own right. If you can handle some of the rougher aspects of the game, this is something that I can reccommend. Platformer junkies,...

Antonblast explosively reinvents the destructive energy of Wario Land, delivering high-energy action that has you demolishing levels at speed while also rewarding precise play with a serious sense of momentum. Boss fights slow the pace a bit, but this is a front-to-back thrillride that you'll keep coming back to master.

Antonblast is like Crash Bandicoot if it was part Wario Land, part Ed, Edd n Eddy, and all awesome.

Whether or not another Wario Land-inspired game can stand on its own is exactly what we're asking in our Antonblast Review.

Antonblast is an incredibly fun time. The premise is unique, the gameplay is incredibly addicting, and the visuals are beautiful. Further, the inspirations that led to its creation are honored respectfully and are used, not to create a cheap nostalgic response, but to create an experience fun for all players. While the game has some bugs, difficulty spikes, and control issues, I highly recommend it, regardless of whether or not you're a fan of the genre.
