Asterigos: Curse of the Stars Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Despite its difficulty not fitting the soulslike expectation, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars manages to be a phenomenal entry, as long as you don't come in expecting challenging gameplay.
But I think that on balance, the whole thing works out to the game’s favor. This is definitely a title made with a lot of love and attention to detail, and while it’s hardly a flawless production, I think it’s worth checking out for people who sit on either side of the fence. If you’ve always wanted to love a Soulslike title but never quite got there, this might help get you over the hump; if you love them but don’t mind something being a bit more Souls-lite, this will delight you. ...
If you're looking for a new action RPG with unique qualities then Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is rather promising so let's check it out.
While there are some notable flaws and shortcomings, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars does manage to entertain and provide the necessary thrills.
Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is a decent action RPG with a beginner-friendly take on the Souls formula, but noticeable shortcomings stop it from being as great as it could be.
Asterigos: Curse of the Stars combines the style of traditional RPGs with a soulslike template, resulting in a challenging but more accessible game that's able to forge its own identity without hiding its influences. The final result isn't perfect as there's plenty of room for more polish. Despite these shortcomings, the gameplay is still enjoyable and the emphasis on storytelling and world building helps make up for it. The biggest divisive factor with Asterigos is that it tries to appeal to both fans of more traditional RPGs and Souls games by combining elements of both, and as a result does...
At its core, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars pretty much accomplishes what it sets out to do, which is to deliver an indie Soulslike experience that does things differently, and for the better in most cases. The world is great to marvel at and explore, the combat system is utterly entertaining with room for experimentation, and all of the systems are seemingly designed to make the players' lives more convenient but not easier. As a debut project, this game is definitely a great start, and I would be extremely excited to see more from Acme Gamestudio in the future.
Despite its rough edges, Asterigos is a solid action RPG with a satisfying story and competent combat.
Asterigos: Curse of the Stars Review
The deep, rich world of Aphes is undermined by the illusion of choice and ultimately frustrating combat, deflating all of the potential Asterigos: Curse of the Stars could have lived up to.
A decently fun action-RPG with a lot of exploration, combat and text.
Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is a solid action RPG with a good set of upgrades and combat capabilities that are rather generic, but it should keep you entertained for some time.
