BoxBoy never seemed like the kind of game that would develop into a series. When HAL Laboratory debuted BoxBoy on the 3DS back in 2015, this quirky puzzle platformer with low-fi graphics seemed like an experimental one-off that had somehow squeaked through the greenlight process. Since then, this little square-jawed hero has proven he's more than a one-hit wonder. For his fourth outing, BoxBoy is joined by BoxGirl and the tall box, Qudy, for a couch co-op friendly adventure filled with some of the most creative and diverse puzzles in the series.

BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! is another great HAL Laboratory offering with only a few small missteps that keep it from being a perfect example of how to make a puzzle platformer. Everything else is great, though, and if you need another game to add to your growing Switch collection, you really can't go too wrong here – especially if you've got another BOXBOY or BOXGIRL in your life you want to share this adrenaline-pumping boxy adventure with.

Boxboy has to be the cutest little cube that no one thought we’d see again. After a few successful, if overlooked, games, Boxboy has once again returned for his fourth outing and his Nintendo Switch debut. And not since the launch of Tetris 99 have any of us been so excited to influence our control over a series of blocks. Boxboy! + Boxgirl! is the same blocky puzzle concept as the previous game, but with brand new stages, and a unique two-player campaign that’s sure to bring smiles to faces.

Nintendo loves to release a small, harmless puzzle game whenever there are no plans of releasing a brand new Switch game at any given month. Snipperclips, Battle Sports Mekuru and the re-release of the mediocre Captain Toad are a few examples of that trend. Those are games that don’t feature fantastic graphics or sound, have simplistic gameplay, and are well-suited for the Switch’s portability since they’re best enjoyed in short sessions. The same can be said about BoxBoy + BoxGirl!, a ...

When the Boxboy series first broke onto the scene back in 2015 on the Nintendo DS,  it innovated a new and interesting way of puzzles in gaming. It took a simple art style and easy enough concept and accelerated it to 100, finding bizarre ways for the user to use what would otherwise be a surface level mechanic. This mechanic was simple but interesting, being sprouting other boxes off of a character to go around obstacles and levels.  In this it introduced a charming little boxed character ...
