Call of the Elder Gods Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Beautiful and mysterious, Call of the Elder Gods is a must-play for any fan of puzzle games. It might not be quite as good as its predecessor in terms of story and setting, but it's still absolutely worth your time, as long as you've got your thinking cap on.
The journal system is key to the game, and it jots down things your character notices from inspecting everything. In other words, it might show symbols or painting details you've discovered conveniently in one place, so you don't need to jog from room to room (and back) to solve puzzles. It's very well done in a way that doesn't outright spoil solutions, as you still need to figure them out.
While this might not be my usual type of game, I had a great time with it nonetheless. Elder Gods is crammed with gorgeous set pieces, clever puzzles, and engrossing writing. I got stuck more than I would have liked, which threw off the pacing. Between that and the adventurous tone, this game wasn’t quite what I was expecting. Even so, Call of the Elder Gods was a delightful time. If you’re in the mood for an eerie eldritch adventure, this game would be a great choice.
Professor Harry Everhart may have survived the cosmic horror that plagued him while he was trapped on that accursed Pacific island in Call of the Sea, but he still suffers from ominous visions decades later. Elsewhere, university student Evangeline Drayton has similarly bizarre dreams of a life and civilization beyond her understanding. When fate brings these two together, it leads to an intriguing and fun mystery centered on solving puzzles that bend the mind and reality itself.

If you enjoyed Call of the Sea, you'll want to pick up this sequel that stars Norah's husband Harry and university student Evangeline as they explore new mysterious lands.
Thanks to a generous hint system and another excellent story, Call of the Elder Gods, is a puzzle game that everyone can enjoy.
Call of the Sea was a game that I loved when it first released over five years ago, and so I was hugely excited to see that a sequel was coming and have been looking forward to diving back in since. Serving as a direct continuation of the original’s story, Call of the Elder Gods definitely benefits from having played the first, but there is an effective summary available at the beginning of the game if you haven’t, and that game’s finale necessitated a new protagonist for this sequel anyway.
For any Fans of Call of the Sea, then the sequel, Call of the Elder Gods will be right up your alley. It continues the eldritch story with new locations, characters, and brain scratching puzzles.
Call of the Elder Gods is a beautiful, haunting and sometimes funny first-person puzzle game. It has a strong focus on its world and characters, with fabulous writing and lovely voice acting. The puzzles are clever, offering a mix of subtle and more grandiose brain scramblers. If you're a fan of cosmic horror or the Lovecraft mythos, Call of the Elder Gods is going to be a game you'll want to dive into immediately. This is one of the most outstanding games of the year so far, and it's not one you're going to want to miss.
