A return to dinosaur horror movies that is torn between ambition and its own rough edges
Code Violet falls short of its inspirations. Although the concise adventure has some strong moments, with some great interior environments, it fails to create menacing enemies that evoke fear in the player. Bugs hinder the experience, often leading to clumsy moments that break the immersion. Unfortunately, fans of Dino Crisis will have to keep waiting for that spiritual successor they’ve been hoping for.
Code Violet is not the Dino Crisis successor you may have hoped for, and doesn't even clear the bar of being a successful clone of the various other third-person shooters it cribs most of its ideas from.

If there’s one thing I’ve always wanted is a brand-new Dino Crisis game in the same vein as the Resident Evil remakes. A highly polished and terrifying horror experience that will take the cult classic franchise and bring it into the new era. Booting up Code Violet for the first time, I was hit with a huge wave of buyer’s remorse. I knew exactly wha...
Code Violet is not worth recommending to survival horror fans. None of its elements work to make it stand out in a crowded space, and this one is going to be forgotten quite easily. You'd be wise to save your cash for another of 2026's offerings.
Code Violet is the worst game I've ever played. The narrative lacks any substance, and all of the characters are devoid of any personality. Further, all of the female characters are written to be mere objects designed for nothing more than sex appeal, which goes double for the protagonist. The gameplay and presentation are also extremely lifeless and boring, with neither having any redeeming qualities. Considering the game is $50, all I can say is this: do not buy this game.
An amateurish mess masquerading as a homage to Dino Crisis, which might be defensible as a well-meaning fan project, if it wasn’t for the outrageously unreasonable price tag.
