Dead Rising: Triple Pack Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Beginning back in 2006, publisher and developer Capcom first brought Dead Rising to the gaming stage as a fresh new zombie title that would go on to lead a critically acclaimed horror series of hack and slash gameplay condensed to a 72 hour period. Ten years (and a few games) later, Capcom has brought this singular series back into the fold with the Dead Rising Triple Pack – ported remakes of the original game, Dead Rising 2, and its remake: Dead Rising 2: Off The Record. But ten years is a long time, so how does this collection feel on current gen?
With the original Dead Rising celebrating its 10th birthday earlier this year, now’s as good a time as any to take another look at the realm of the undead. Capcom has been on a remaster streak lately, with most of the classic Resident Evil series seeing some form of up-res release on the current generation of consoles. The newly released Dead Rising Triple Pack puts players back into the shoes of an unlikely pair of outbreak survivors. For those that may have missed out on these three adventures on the last generation of consoles or returning for another chance at survival, is it worth trying ...
Dead Rising: Triple Pack is a decent packaging of the original three games but there is no reason to revisit this if you have already played the original ones.
Zombies, Malls and Casinos - Oh my!
The bottom line is if you haven’t played any three of these games, this is the best looking console version to date, and these enduring zombie-smashing games are still worth a playthrough. Outside of that, there’s nothing new in this Triple Pack to draw old Frank West fans back to experience the chaos again before he returns in Dead Rising 4 this December.
Overall, the Dead Rising Triple Pack is a vanilla porting of the three games, with not much added even in the visuals department. It’s disappointing and can be a bit steep of an asking price to revisit these games without any incentives such as commentary or developer diaries. If you’ve never played these games before, then go ahead and give it a shot. For long time fans of the series, however, it’s best you stick with your old copies and just play the new Dead Rising 4.
