Dredge: The Pale Reach Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
The Pale Reach is a brief but brilliant stop on an outstanding expedition. It’s side content you can tackle at any time, and it’s easily on par with the rest of the game. For DREDGE fans it’s a must-play, and for anyone else looking to get into the game, it’d be hard not to recommend such an effective dose of frozen fear. I can't wait to see what Black Salt Games is cooking up for us next.
The Pale Reach is as good a reason as any to dip back into one of the best indie games of the year, but it falters in a lack of content, interesting narrative, and scares.
The Pale Reach is a small expansion for Dredge that adds a new region to explore. The chillingly cold waters of The Pale Reach. The new region isn’t part of Dredge’s main story and can be tackled at any time, simply by sailing there. It does, however, offer some unique rewards, new fish to catch, dangers to dodge, and puzzles to solve. All while uncovering a side story involving a beast trapped in the ice.
Short and sweet, The Pale Reach offers the perfect excuse to return to the world of DREDGE. And as one of the best indie titles of the year, how could anyone refuse?
Dredge: The Pale Reach is a rewarding, albeit bite-sized slice expansion that taps into what made the base game one of this year's most compelling indie efforts. For those after more of that unique, unsettling coziness, The Pale Reach should scratch that nautical itch.
The Pale Reach is just more Dredge, which is fine by me, another few hours of bobbing around in a boat, fishing, and being hunted by giant sea monsters, all of which is weirdly relaxing.
