Insect Armageddon is terribly cheesy in all the right ways. The lack of split-screen is a bit of a disappointment, but the mindless shooting and better performance on PC is simply too fun to keep me from caring all that much. It's the type of game you complete once on Normal, then again and again on all the difficulties with your friends. It isn’t the best at anything, but it’s got a flair for the ridiculous that makes it unique in a genre that often takes itself a little too seriously.

EDF can become monotonous – mindless even, if you let it – but with the right frame of mind, there's a remarkable amount of fun to be had here.

On its own merits, the PC version of Insect Armageddon is a strong port of the most modern and proficient Earth Defense Force yet. The downloadable version is even cheaper than its console counterparts too, currently “e-tailing” for £14.99 on Steam.
