Eternal Strands Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Eternal Strands weaves together features from several genres to heighten the action-adventure experience in a new and exciting way. The world feels alive and manages to provide a fresh experience without overstaying its welcome.
Eternal Strands is an amazing adventure that excels in combat and exploration. Finding unique sights, battling fearsome bosses, and crafting incredible gear makes it extremely fun to play. Highly recommended.
Big hearts and bigger monsters make Eternal Strands something special.
Eternal Strands is a light and breezy fantasy action RPG that's elevated by its innovative use of physics-based magic that makes even minor combat encounters feel novel. It's also thrilling to take on the larger foes, though this is more short-lived than the likes of Monster Hunter.
Eternal Strands weaves its myriad influences into something memorable, beautiful and utterly enthralling.
An action RPG with magical powers that feel genuinely dangerous, married to level design that offers scale and prettiness.
Eternal Strands doesn't make the best first impression, and certain aspects of it, such as the basics of combat, simply aren't impressive at all. Give it some time, though, and its unique features start to shine through, making this action-adventure definitely worth a look for fans of the genre.
Eternal Strands begins with a bang and does its best to keep you engaged through its 40-hour campaign. The inspirations the new IP pulls from are wonderfully celebrated and elevate them as few others have.
Mixing elements from Breath of the Wild with Shadow of the Colossus sounds amazing on paper, but Eternal Strands somehow renders it a merely average experience. The gameplay loop is fine, but slightly held back by backtracking and some noticeably absent features common to the genre (like a minimap and compass). I wanted to love the story considering this has some old-school Bioware talent behind it, but the lack of a hook in the plot and some very dull characters made me want to skip dialogue often. I like Eternal Strands well enough, but there's plenty of other similar games that offer a more...
Ultimately, the game is brimming with strong ideas, but none are executed well enough to leave a lasting impression.
Eternal Strands' incredible magic system and monster hunts are held back by the game's story.
Despite some janky controls and bland characters, this colourful tour through a ruined city is consistently surprising and enjoyable.
