Eternal Strands has potential to be a great action adventure game, but it is weighed down by eternal fetch quests. It's beautiful to look at, but hard to withstand the hand holding hinderance. I know who this is for, but there are better entries to scratch your magic weaving itch.

An element-hurling action odyssey that triples down on fun and creativity, only minor weaknesses keep Eternal Strands from its rightful throne.

Despite some janky controls and bland characters, this colourful tour through a ruined city is consistently surprising and enjoyable.

Ultimately, the game is brimming with strong ideas, but none are executed well enough to leave a lasting impression.

Eternal Strands' incredible magic system and monster hunts are held back by the game's story.

Eternal Strands doesn't make the best first impression, and certain aspects of it, such as the basics of combat, simply aren't impressive at all. Give it some time, though, and its unique features start to shine through, making this action-adventure definitely worth a look for fans of the genre.

You can’t fault its ambition, but this is too little game stretched across too much open world map, with repetitive enemy encounters and tedious storytelling.

Mixing elements from Breath of the Wild with Shadow of the Colossus sounds amazing on paper, but Eternal Strands somehow renders it a merely average experience. The gameplay loop is fine, but slightly held back by backtracking and some noticeably absent features common to the genre (like a minimap and compass). I wanted to love the story considering this has some old-school Bioware talent behind it, but the lack of a hook in the plot and some very dull characters made me want to skip dialogue often. I like Eternal Strands well enough, but there's plenty of other similar games...

3D action adventure games are notoriously difficult to develop in the modern indie scene – even though more accessible creation tools and more powerful game engines are available, the sheer cost and scale of game development in this genre doesn’t tend to favour a typically smaller independent budget. Despite this, 2025 has gifted us Eternal Strands, an ambitious, epic third-person action adventure title from a brand new indie studio.

Eternal Strands begins with a bang and does its best to keep you engaged through its 40-hour campaign. The inspirations the new IP pulls from are wonderfully celebrated and elevate them as few others have.

An action RPG with magical powers that feel genuinely dangerous, married to level design that offers scale and prettiness.

Look past the tedious story and Eternal Strands features some brilliant massive monster battles, especially when you unlock some great magic to use on them. The problem comes in getting to those bits, bogged down in plenty of bloat and repetition that results in its best moments being fewer and far between. Flawed but fun behemoth battling makes this an interesting if imperfect mix of its superior influences.

Eternal Strands is a light and breezy fantasy action RPG that's elevated by its innovative use of physics-based magic that makes even minor combat encounters feel novel. It's also thrilling to take on the larger foes, though this is more short-lived than the likes of Monster Hunter.

Eternal Strands shines in its innovation and creativity, but it stumbles in execution at times. For fans of action RPGs who value experimentation and unique gameplay systems, this is a journey worth taking—even if it’s not without its rough patches. Eternal Strands is a strong First Effort from Yellow Brick Games.

As you can probably tell by this point, I can’t make heads or tails of Eternal Strands. If we talk about polish, art direction, music, and combat I think it is a great title that will entertain for quite some time. But once all was said and done, I struggled to remember anything aside from a few cool combat encounters. The progression system aside from spells is a little uninspired, and the story outside of its charming cast isn’t much to write home about either. If you want to know if this game is for you or not, I highly...

Despite pulling features and mechanics from a variety of different series, Eternal Strands manages to feel like a cohesive experience that really shines once players get the hang of its advanced physics and combat system. However, the average story and the game's repetitive latter half hold it back from being truly fantastic, making it a solid action-adventure that's just a few steps away from greatness.

Eternal Strands is a fantastic first title from Yellow Brick Games. It’s an IP I hope to see more of in the future, as its excellent gameplay felt like a breath of fresh air for the genre. It’s out Day One on Game Pass and even in this bloated 2025 release schedule I wholeheartedly recommend checking it out no matter where you play.

Full of ambition and packed with great boss battles, Eternal Strands doesn't land every shot it takes, but it lands enough to make it an impressive action RPG.
