Extreme Exorcism is an excellent example of why Nintendo's recent moves to embrace the indie scene are so great. Its quick, fun gunplay partnered with a fitting, if not groundbreaking soundtrack make for a game that's perfect to sit down and enjoy with three friends. It's a must-have title for Wii U indie supporters and fans of split-screen multiplayer.
Fun, frantic and freaky - Extreme Exorcism is a thrill of a game that gets the heart pumping and pushes the player to try and conquer the level just one more time. Whether it be the friendly rivalry of couch co-op or simply the enjoyment of blasting away ghosts solo in Arcade Mode, there is enough here to keep players entertained. The retro-inspired pixel graphics and frenetic pace will ultimately not appeal to everybody but there's enjoyment to be found, even for even novice players.
All in all, however, Extreme Exorcism is a joy to play, and those after a frenetic indie fix with plenty of action should get themselves hooked up with Extreme Exorcism pronto. Players after more longevity and replayability may not find enough to keep them occupied, but the title packs a punch into its short bursts of action, and is ideal for those after a hectic multiplayer experience.
If anything, Extreme Exorcism is a game for those who have tried TowerFall and Samurai Gunn at their parties and want something even more hectic, and bustin’ makes them feel good; otherwise players new to the genre may feel a bit overwhelmed with the amount of on-screen action. As for me, I’ll stick to the classics for my get-togethers. Simplicity is what appeals to me when I’m trashed and I’d rather not projectile vomit from my eyes trying to keep up with all those ghosts.
Up to the plate, is another couch co-op game, a genre I seem to be reviewing a lot of as of late. Having not been overly impressed with the past titles, I was really hoping that Extreme Exorcism could give me a truly amazing couch co-op experience. Sadly, it did anything but.
