Fallen Tear: The Ascension Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
The time spent in early access has been mostly good to Fallen Tear: The Ascension.
Fallen Tear: The Ascension is a fusion of JRPG and Metroidvania that looks good, sounds good, but ends up feeling rather aimless.
Fallen Tear: The Ascension's ambition is commendable, as is its integration of party-based JRPG mechanics into the 2D metroidvania genre. However, the open-ended, hands-off design feels like it hinders the game's focus and balance, and leaves the overall experience feeling somewhat directionless. If you want a hardcore metroidvania platformer with some innovative mechanics, Fallen Tear: The Ascension has a lot to offer, however some remaining design issues hold it back from potential greatness.
The biggest problems are the excessive aspects of the design, in a game that is more laborious than it should be.
