Professional reviews from gaming critics
The first thing you’ll notice about FIFA 16 is that it’s harder to score goals. Messi may be on the box art again, but the latest edition of this best-selling football sim focuses on defence.
One of the strongest sports franchises around continues to stand tall in FIFA 16. The addition of women breathes fresh air into the already solid gameplay. The player career needs a new paint job, but the manager career is solid. FIFA Ultimate Team is as good as ever, and the FIFA Ultimate Team Draft is a clever take on Madden's new Draft Champions mode. Overall, FIFA is clearly the most technically sound sports franchise in EA Sports' pocket, which can result in a lack of risk taking. For now, no risks are needed, as FIFA 16 is a fantastic addition to a storied franchise.
The latest installment of the ever-popular football game is sure to challenge newbies and veterans alike with glorious new passing mechanics and a realism like never before.
A marked improvement over last year, but the absence of pace is sorely missed. FIFA 16 is not as good on the pitch as PES this year – again – but it’s a great football game regardless, with unrivalled off the pitch options.
For now though, we’ll confidently stick our neck out and say that FIFA is well worth a punt. Not only is FIFA 10 the best EA has ever produced, it’s also one of the best football games we’ve played, period. It’s not without its niggles, but setting these aside, FIFA 10 does just about everything else exactly right.
