FIFA 17 comes with new and improved A.I interplay and much more. Oh, and it's the best FIFA game in a while.
EA have refined and near perfected the soccer simulation, but also experimented with some bold ideas that work well and breathe new life into this veteran series.
An Unexpected Journey
FIFA 17 was already coming off one of the series’ best outings in awhile, but with features like the The Journey mode and the even more realistic Frostbite engine, EA Canada has once again given players a reason to buy the game yet again with FIFA 17.
Overall, then, FIFA 17 is a success. Long-term fans will still immediately get stuck in with multiplayer behemoth Ultimate Team, which is as addictive as ever, but the title also gives players a lot more variety beyond that. The Journey is a fun, light-hearted diversion to keep players occupied, while Career Mode has enough little expansions to make it feel like a very different beast. In short, FIFA 17 is a fuller experience than previous games, and when that's married up with the slick, licensed depth and complex player ratings that fans expect, it's hard to find reasons not to pick it up. Real-life soccer players act out their own destinies on the pitch with each passing minute, but that's trickier in video games. FIFA 17's new mode, The Journey, has no shortage of inspirations; every match and season is full of them. But The Journey is in an ambiguous position: It gives the illusion that you're directing the tale of Alex Hunter, but you're neither in control enough of Hunter to take ownership of him, and the story of the mode itself can struggle to synch up to his actions. Despite this, The Journey has memorable moments and is an admirable first step worth experiencing alongsi...
EA strolls to another easy win in the absence of a serious challenge from Pro Evo.
In the PES vs. FIFA stakes, we're giving this year's bout to PES. However, that doesn't diminish how good FIFA 17 is. It's a superb football game, marred slightly by a few annoying flaws. As an overall package, FIFA 17 also delivers in spades. Back of the net!
Overall
It’s a phrase expectant football fans around the globe chime annually. That the start of a new season – and hopefully, one or two star signings – will pave the way for fresh hopes, dreams, and tantalising possibilities.
Another year goes by and there’s one thing you can be sure of that will come along with it: FIFA is back. Sadly, FIFA 17 is only a slight upgrade on last years FIFA 16. Some new gameplay elements that players have been asking for have been included, like improved throw-ins, low shots at goal, and keeper controlled kicks. Not necessarily very exciting if you’re looking for a reason to pick up FIFA over the many other sport sims that are out there.
