Today I learned to trust in The Breath. Truly, it will lead us to the Ancients and our salvation.
From Dust looks great. The game has gone for a very minimalist approach despite the odd highlight and prompt, the game lets the environment do the talking. Map design varies from level to level, you go from such environments as a volcanic island, tropical island and a desert. All of which have a distinct look and feel different from one another and the fact you can change the appearance of any given level just adds to the appeal. One level for instance only consists of a few small islands and by the levels end you have a big and sprawling playground most of which was created by you. In short F...
From Dust is memorable, beautiful and unique, something that stays in your mind long after you’ve moved on to something else. It’s a game that’s as fascinating to watch as it is to play, a thought-provoking spin on the power fantasies of the traditional god game. Sometimes it takes the challenge too far, and superfluous mechanics occasionally overcomplicate a simple and elegantly limited formula, but From Dust is nonetheless an extraordinary achievement. This is already the best Summer of Arcade yet.
From Dust is set in an extreme version of Planet Earth where nature unleashes her power in a much more violent way than what we are used to. Tsunamis, earthquakes, floods, wildfires, volcanic eruptions are what the days are made of for the people of Dust. In this kind of God game, users will play with powers to manipulate the world around them.
It's easy to appreciate From Dust, but harder to enjoy it. Regardless of this fact, it's an important game - bold, innovative and different - and well worth checking out during the summer drought.
Still, From Dust really is an experience you need to have. There are plenty of levels, a challenge mode to tackle, and lots of secrets to find. Plus, you haven’t really ever played anything like this before. Sure, Black and White let you chuck people around, but From Dust lets you dump mounds of earth on them, then drown them all in a tsunami. You surely can’t turn that opportunity down.
